I watched her from some distance, pending what she would do next. As far as I knew her, it would either be something very stupid, or something risky. Or both. In very rare occasions it was something brilliant, though she tended to think that she was some genius in general. She was talented when it came to science or researches, that much I admitted, but when you were talking about stuff you really needed, like every day life actions, she was a lost cause. Furthermore she drove herself crazy with her science and researches, trying to explain absolutely everything, even the things you could not explain with science, like magic.

She walked on the edge of the street, thinking that no one would notice something odd about a black cat. And nobody did, except you knew what you had to look for: the eyes. Her red eyes, gleaming like little fires, always gave her away. But I would have found her anyway, she was my sister after all.
Like almost always little Evangeline, her black cat, trotted behind her. They looked like they were twins in this form.

I leaned on the trunk of a tree, standing on one of its branches, watching everything from high above. I liked to have an overview.

A magpie, that sat next to my foot, suddenly croaked. The noise made the two cats on the street stop and scarlet eyes turn into my direction, watching me with anger and distrust. I looked back flatly with the same shade of red in my eyes and with folded arms. My look turned into a challenging one as if I were to say “Will you manage to not get someone killed this time?”, but Vali ignored it, turning away from me and proceeding on her way. I sighed disappointed.

“When will she ever learn?” I asked myself. Zundi cocked her head at the sound of my voice and looked at me with curiosity. I gave the corvid a grin and eventually transformed into a magpie myself. There was nothing left to do for me here, but I knew someplace where I could still be useful.

I unfolded my wings and jumped from the branch, gliding to the earth and then turning skywards again. Flying, it really was great. I felt free as a bird and enjoyed the view from above very much. When I looked around I saw that Zundi and a few other magpies were following me as usual. Their company was always comforting for me since it gave me the feeling to not be alone. Additionally it seemed to be mysterious and I really was into all that mythic stuff involving around blood rituals and ravens. Magpies were quite close to ravens already, so I left it at that. They also looked more friendly then the pure black birds, making it easier for me to not become too much of a satanist, I was christian after all.

A few minutes later I landed on a window sill while the rest of my flock settled down on a nearby tree. I picked on the window with my beak and tried to look friendly. As friendly as possible at least. Only a few seconds later I already saw Joshua moving to the window and stopping before it, looking at me sceptically. I still tried to look friendly and, if possible, cute. Eventually he opened the window for me.

“Is it something important? I'm doing my homework right now.” he asked a little annoyed. I quickly nodded my head and jumped into the room, flying one round in it before eventually landing on the bed. I changed back to my normal look of a three year old.

“And what is so important this time?” Joshua asked while closing the window.

“My newest results of research. God dammit, I sound like Vali!” I cursed.

“Caily, I already told you that I'm not interested in-”

“-hearing about this nonsense. I know. I listened the last time you told me and the time before that. Might be surprising for you to find out that some people in this world actually listen to what you say, right?” I replied a little on edge. I always listened to him, but in contrary he never listened to me, which was very frustrating.

“Alright, but make it short, I still have to finish an essay for Spanish here.”

“Oh, can I help you with that?” I instantly asked with a grin. Spanish was my second language and therefore I was more than just qualified to help him. Unlike Bee, who welcomed every help for school he could get, or better said, everything he did not have to do for it, Joshua actually tried to do everything on his own. This world and stubbornness, someone should already explain it to me!

“No thanks, I'm good. So what about your research?” I already expected this answer.

“I'm only telling you when you're listening because it really is important.”

“I know that it is about Vali, but I think that you interpreting her wrong. No offense.”

“Offense taken. I'm her sister and therefore know her better than you lovestruck- eh, sorry.” I looked away and coughed. “Anyway, you are interpreting me wrong, as it seems.”

“And then how should I interpret you, Caily?” He asked with a sigh. I could tell that I was already pulling at the edges of his patience. Funny enough his patience tether was a lot shorter for me than it was for Vali. But Vali was Vali and I was I, you could not really compare us to be honest.

"You can say what you want about me, but at least I do have manners and self control. In comparison to my sister that is. I mean, sure I am creepy, but that's a basic trait of mine I guess. Which 14 year-old girl who's trapped in a 3 year-old's body is not creepy after all? Well, I do not know anyone but I think you get my point." I said and watched Joshua very attentive, pending his reaction.

"Manners and self control, huh? Don't at least half of the corpses in the forest go on your count?" he countered flatly.

"Hey, I didn't kill them! And you forget that the other half is Vali's fault." It was not fair that Joshua brought that up now. Vampires needed to hunt because they need blood to survive. Vali and I couldn't help it and would gladly prefer an alternative. Especially Vali.

"You do not seem to get who of us two is the real psycho here." I said and crossed my arms.

"To be honest, you really don't try very hard to prove your point." Joshua said, watching the corvids outside in the tree.

"Hey, creepiness and psycho-ness are two completely different things!" I tried to defend myself.

Joshua threw his hands up in frustration. "What do you want to tell me here actually?"

"That Vali is not the angel you take her to be. She sucks at being a vampire as much as she fails to be a human. She cannot decide who she wants to be. I, on the other hand, know who I am and how to behave."

"Yeah, you are fully a vampire, I get it."

"Exactly! That's at least better than being nothing. Vali is screwing up everything, especially with trying to explain everything scientifically. Amelie also thinks so!"

"Amelie is also a vampire, you lack a human's judgment."

"Stop being so stubborn already! Vali can't handle her human life because she also is a vampire and can't handle being a vampire at all. She is a mess, a psychical mess. And I guess I do not have to remind you of the fact who I have to thank for my appearance and who had the split personality."

   Joshua fell silent.

"It is only a matter of time before she falls back to the latter. I told her that her vampire personality disappeared because psychology and all. But to be honest, I don't believe that. She became worse since then and even is numb and sadistic normally now. But most of all she is a goddamn masochist as it seems."

"And you think I can help her?"

"No, you can't. That's something she has to handle herself. I just want you to understand that she is a time bomb and as such she is dangerous. I will tell you a fact now: There are no things such as part-vampires. Either you are a vampire or you are not. Vali tries to be a human but ignores the fact that she isn't. It is like a predator that tries to be a prey animal, it is not possible! But predators can still love their prey or be friends with them, that's what Vali does not understand.”

“Since when does that freak fall under the category of 'prey'?” Joshua asked, almost amused. I groaned in annoyance.

“Has she not explained it to you or have you just not listened to me, or both? He is a half demon, which also makes him half human. As a matter of fact his blood is a delicacy for unpure vampires such as Vali and me. I do have enough manners and respect to not do him any harm though, this is what I meant with good manners. Vali, on the other hand, has some serious lack of self control. If she really wants to keep this whole vampire thing a secret from him in the future, then she better does something about that.”

“Again: Why are you telling me?”

“Because you keep seeing her as a human and that won't do her any good! She has never been a human and she never will be one.”

He once again fell silent. I silent moment in which I just watched him contemplate what I had said. His bright brown hair was a mess like almost always and I saw a tired look in his brown eyes as if he had not have enough sleep. I knew the reason, but it pained me to think about it, to think about why he cared about Vali so much and defended her every action. The reason why he did not care about me. Eventually he looked into my golden eyes again, the very same shade of gold as my sister's eyes, yet with a completely different shine to them.

“I think you should go now.” Joshua eventually said. I sighed because I knew that he once again had to decided to be stubborn. That he once again had denied every bit of reason I had tried to talk into him. That he had chosen to trust Vali and not me. It seriously hurt to know the latter, because he was the only person who in fact could trust me. With everyone else I played my silly game of manipulation, pulling the strings and manipulating them as I pleased. But Joshua was out of the game for me. He was someone I could not bring myself to manipulate or to lie to. And the worst part was that he knew that.

Without another word I jumped down from the bed and walked to the door.

“I will, literally.” I said disappointed, jumped up to reach the handle and eventually closed the door behind me.

When I went downstairs I heard the TV from the living room and saw Mr Crawford emerging from the kitchen. Apparently he had heard me.

“Oh, Caily. Why are you visiting at this late hour?” he asked, friendly as always.

“Just trying to do my job, chief. But I'm failing. A certain vampire, a real vampire, will soon be on the loose.” I said, the disappointment still apparent in my voice. I went to the front door and opened it.

“Tell Joshua to keep himself away from Vali. I fear that something might happen soon.” The door fell shut after I've said it and the magpies flew down from the tree, circling me. When I walked down the little path to the street I watched the frozen puddles all around and how my breath formed clouds in the cold that quickly perished again.

“I always set the things right, so why am I failing so hard here?” I asked no one in particular and petted Zundi, who had sat down on my shoulder.

I guess it's no use for now. I told myself in thoughts and walked down the cold street, breathing in the December air and breathing it out again. It would be Christmas soon. Hopefully the things would be alright until at least then. Hopefully the things would still be alright after than. I wished the things would never change, so that they always would stay alright, but I knew for a fact that this wish was as impossible to come true as it was impossible for me to survive a stab of a spile in my heart.
Because I love Caily a very very very lot! She builds such a great contrast to Vali. While I do love to write Vali, I also love to write Caily, because then I can also see Vali from a different perspective. It makes me proud to be able to say that the differences between my characters are clearly visible, so I have improved overall. :meow:
Oh, and in case some people have no idea what this all is about, here a little explanation:

Joshua (17) = normal human, son of the police chief, good friend of the Goldwyns (Vali, Caily, their mother and Amelie)
Bee (17) = half demon; Vali's boyfriend (© ~AppyNinja)
Amelie (42) = Vali's and Caily's aunt (quarter vampire)
Mr Crawford (48) = police chief

LONG SUMMARY
Caily (the character from which's perspective this short story is written) and Vali (the character she is talking about) are my two quaver vampire sisters. They are originally horse characters (some of you knwo them from my comic), but for a RP with AppyNinja I have turned them both into humans and well, adjusted them to fit a human world. They are completely seperate from their horse alter egos though!
Joshua, on the other hand, is a character only Kjara knows so far. He is Vali's childhood friend and also best friend. But the catch is that he actually loves Vali, but Vali is together with Bee (~AppyNinja's character) and Caily has a crush on Joshua (get into your league again, you're only 14! :stare:). Omg, yes, this is very complicated. :'D Anyway, Vali is starting to act weirdly lately at the point this story snippet takes place in and so far only Caily notices this. Vali keeps denying that something is wrong with here and Caily tries to meanwhile convince anyone that something is not right. No one listens to poor little Caily though, which makes her very frustrated and angry.

Anyway, this whole short story takes place in "the future". Alias: Lilafly already is plotting very furiously but the RP has not yet caught up. :'D omg, so many plans for Caily, I love my little girl!
I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peak. Since the beginning of the RP is a little rusty and does not offer a lot what the actual story is about, I thought I'd throw this in to give you a little insight, so that you now can decide for yourselves if you are interested in seeing this roleplay in full lengh translated as a story, or if not. :meow:

Have a nice day!
